Description

Skradin is one of the oldest towns in Croatia and was inhabited already in Illyrian times (800 BC to 600 AD, in the 2nd century AD came the  Romans. In the Middle Ages the powerful family Šubić from Bribir owned the place.  1522- 1684 it belonged to the Ottoman Empire, then until 1794 to the Republic of Venice. Later came Napoleon, then the Emperor of Austria-Hungary.

Today Skardin - a much visited tourist place and the end point of the navigable part of the river Krka.

An old place, which makes a different impression due to the modern administrative building of the "Krka Nature Park"  The entrance to the Nature Park is on the north bank by the bridge. The jetty in front of the bridge is only for taxi boats, you are not allowed to use your own dinghy. However, you can walk from the town along the shore path  to the park entrance.

For yachts, Skradin is a very popular destination not only in Bora with  waterfalls of the river Krka whose largest - Skradinski Bug - is located above on the river course. Here scenes of the Winnetou movie "The Oil Prince" were filmed.

Above the waterfalls the Krka becomes a lake landscape with the monastery island "Visivac" and becomes a mountain river again at the Roski waterfall. You can book a boat trip on the lakes to the monastery.

Slightly above at the outskirts of the city lies the worth seeing castle ruin Turina. On the side road to the north is the interesting oil mill "Uljara Laca" here the olives of the whole Bezike are processed.
