Description

Cala Fornells, a fjord-like bay 2sm inland between the peninsula of Mola de Fornells with the unlit Pta. d'Murte and the peninsula of Capo de sa Paret with the lighthouse (Fl2s 29m 7M).
On both capes are historic watchtowers from pirate times, which are a good landmark.

Cala Fornells is a perfect anchorage, especially in bad weather and strong northerly winds (mistral) a safe place with various options for anchoring.

After passing the narrow entrance - barely 190m wide - with the illuminated historical watchtower on the west side - one runs with the leading light UF Q.R and rear light Iso.R.4s into the elongated bay.

When the wind is northerly the wind and swells face into the bay, and you re advised to look to the south for an anchorage or mooring for a place to moor.

The bay is partly part of the nature reserve "Reserva Marina Menorca" and is subject to some regulations - anchoring on  seagrass meadows (Posidonia Oceanica) is , like everywhere in the Balearic Islands, prohibited and there are also restrictions on diving and fishing.
