The Mljet National Park is one of the 8 national parks in Croatia and is located in the northwest of the island of Mljet. It was established in 1960 and since then has been visited by more than 100,000 people annually. It covers just over a quarter of the island in the northwestern part of the island of Mljet, with Veliko Ježero, Malo Ježero, the bay of Soline and a 500 m wide sea belt from Cape Mljet, with a total of 54 sq km.
The main parts of the park are: Veliko Ježero with the monastery island of Sv. Marija (one of the biggest attractions of the park), Malo Ježero and the villages of Goveđari, Polače and Pomena.
