Description

The area around Makarska has been settled since the 2nd millennium BC and was a stop on the trade route to the Baltic the "Amber Road". The history is like in almost all places on the east coast of the Adriatic - Illyrians - Romans from the east and west, Venice - Turks  and again the Republic of Venice, not to forget the Austro-Hungarians - lay here for centuries in a struggle for power.
